Windows 10

Now until July 29, 2016 upgrade your computer to Windows 10 for free. This limited-time upgrade offer is for a full version of Windows 10 for users currently operating with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. After July 29, Microsoft will begin charging for the latest version of Windows at a price not yet released.

Over 50% of desktop users worldwide are still operating on Windows 7. An alarming 20% still are operating on Windows XP ( a 14-year old, vulnerable, and unsupported operating system). During Microsoft’s Windows 10 unveiling, Executive Vice President of Operating Systems, Terry Merson, stated “We think of Windows as a service.” Microsoft suggested Windows 10 will be the last major platform release, meaning it could be the last major desktop OS you will need to deploy.

However, before upgrading to Windows 10 there are a few key things to consider:

  • Compatibility: Will your critical line-of-business applications and software work seamlessly on an updated system?
  • Upgrade Time & Cost: How long will it take to upgrade your organization? Do you have a game plan to ensure every user will be upgraded properly?
  • Backup: Do you have a complete backup available in case Murphy’s Law comes to fruition?
  • Specs: Is your machine able to upgrade? If you’re still running XP there’s a good chance your machine needs to be replaced
